I know that for many of us, this Thanksgiving holiday is the first break we have had since before the election. It is a time to remind ourselves that, even in uncertain times, we have a lot to be thankful for.
This Thanksgiving I am thankful for our members, volunteers, and staff at Americans for Safe Access (ASA). I can’t imagine facing the new Administration or the potential Attorney General Jeff Sessions without you all. For almost 15 years, we have fought together to bring safe access to patients across the U.S. In this time, we have made amazing strides! When we started ASA in 2002, eight states had medical cannabis laws. None of these laws included access programs. There were eleven dispensaries in the country, all operating underground, and only 30,000 patients. The Bush administration was sending in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to conduct paramilitary style raids to close down access centers under the guise that “Marijuana has no medical value.” Because of your support, today we stand two million patients strong! We have the support of 89% of Americans and 44 states with medical cannabis laws (29 full states, 15 CBD laws). We have over 100,000 members located in every congressional district across the US and in Puerto Rico and Guam. Under our watch, medical cannabis has gone mainstream, and we are now working with organizations like the American Herbal Products Association, the prestigious international law firm Orrick, Epilepsy Foundation, MS Society, The Answer Page and others. There is still much more work to be done, but together, I am confident we can defend the ground we have gained and keep moving forward, and for that, I am truly thankful! Sincerely, Steph Sherer P.S. As an additional THANK YOU to our members we are offering the following discounts through Monday at midnight: 10% off upcoming Patient Focused Certification (PFC) training programs, 30% off all PFC Learner’s Guides, and 15% off Unity 2017 conference registration. |
